If an appointment is needed, please set up an advising appointment using THIS LINK. An Outlook meeting link will be sent to you with the confirmation of your appointment (and Zoom link for online appointments). You will need to sign into Zoom with an account (free to create) for our advising appointment. You can create an account using your UT EID/email. Welcome! The Geography advising office is located in RLP 1.216. It is generally open Monday through Friday from 9am to 12pm and 1pm to 4:30pm. Undergraduate advising is available (by appointment only) for a variety of issues that includes degree requirements, course availability, academic policies, petitions, major selection, internships and referrals to campus resources.
Registration Advising
Please try to obtain advising before registration occurs. Most times of year advising is available on a via appointment, but starting the two weeks of registration, advising will be on a walk-in only basis. Please use Microsoft Bookings to make an appointment. Advising is available all year and you are welcome to schedule appoints accordingly. You may run your own degree audit online through IDA (Interactive Degree Audit): http://www.utexas.edu/student/registrar/ida/.

Registration Advising update Fall 2026
Hi everyone! I hope everyone’s semester is going well!
To accommodate more students, I will NOT be hosting normal scheduled appointments. Instead, I will only be providing walk-ins/drop-ins during the weeks of registration from November 2nd-13th in my office in RLP 1.216. This should, hopefully, give more of you an opportunity to come in and get some feedback on your Spring course options and checking on your graduation plans.
The walk-in/drop-in times are:
Monday: 9am-12pm, 1pm-4pm
Tuesday: 9am-11am, 1pm-4pm
Wednesday: 9am-12pm, 1pm-2pm, 3pm-4pm
Thursday & Friday: 9am-12pm, 1pm-4pm
In order to be able to advise as many students as possibly, these times are ONLY for Spring 2027 registration support, minor confirmation, academic q-drops or withdrawal requests, and other concerns related to classes this semester or next. Long-term planning appointments such as questions about Study Abroad, degree planning extending beyond next Spring or summer and other more detailed discussions will need to be saved for appointments after registration has ended. Regular appointments will be available again beginning November 16th until the winter break period in December.
For students who need to complete a SUCCESS Agreement or have an advising hold, please come to walk-ins/drop-ins ASAP once they begin Monday, November 2nd, as those holds will prevent you from registering and can only be cleared by an advisor. Other holds can be viewed in your Registration Information Sheet along with instructions on how to clear them.
Becoming a Major in Geography or Sustainaibilty Studies
To declare a major in Geography or Sustainability Studies, you must visit the undergraduate advisor. Use Microsoft Bookings to make an appointment. To declare the major of Urban Studies, please visit their Internal Transfer Admissions webpage for more details.
